X-Men Legends II: Rise of Apocalypse is an action role-playing game developed primarily by Raven Software and published by Activation. It is the follow up to 2004's X-Men Legends. It was released in September 2005 for the Game Cube, Microsoft Windows, N-Gage, PlayStation 2, PlayStation Portable and Xbox. It is set after the events of X-Men Legends and features the mutant super villain Apocalypse as the primary antagonist.

The developers intended the game to have a greater sense of scale than its predecessor, and writers created a story where the villains known as the Brotherhood of Mutants would need to ally themselves with the heroic X-Men to defeat a greater threat. High quality cinematic were created by Blur Studio. Online multi player was also added.

The game was well received by gaming critics on all platforms. Critics felt that the inclusion of online play, additional mutant powers, and a larger cast made the game an improvement over its predecessor. Some reviewers were critical of the game's voice acting and felt that the game play was repetitive. It sold enough copies to be added to the budget line known as PlayStation 2's Greatest Hits.

GAME PLAY OF X-MEN LEGENDS II

X-Men Legends II is an action role-playing game. It unites two Marvel Comics superhero teams, the heroic X-Men and the villainous Brotherhood of Mutants as they together face the mutant super villain Apocalypse and his minions. Players can choose up to four characters to use at once from a larger roster. Players unlock additional characters as they proceed through the game. Four players can play on one machine cooperatively, and players can join or leave at any time. The game also features online play for up to four players, a first for the series. A new game plus mode is included that allows players to play through the game a second time while retaining all character stats.

As characters gain experience points their mutant superpowers and unique abilities can be upgraded. Items found during game play can also be equipped to further enhance a character's abilities. Characters can combine attacks to create a combo, in which two or more players punch or kick a single enemy at the same time. The character's special abilities can also be used in the same manner to create a Super Combo which inflicts massive damage on enemies. Each character has several mutant powers that players can assign to controller buttons. The game also features a skirmish mode, which allows players to fight against each other or waves of computer-controlled enemies

A gang called the H-Bombers have blown up the Carlyle building, and Spider-Man comes in to save the day. He beats the bombers and saves a woman from being killed. Spider-Man takes Mary Jane Watson, his girlfriend, on a thrill ride, and stops by central park. Mary Jane tries to comfort him and tell him it wasn't his fault. Nearby, a symbiote inside a meteor crashes nearby and attaches to Peter's shoe. Meanwhile, Harry sneaks into the secret Goblin lair, and goes into a chamber filled with green smoke, and puts on his Goblin armor.

This version of the game does not include any of the actors of the film of the other platforms. The plot changes drastically compared with the film and the other consoles, especially because none of the characters appear side of the other consoles, and this version follows a single thematic thread. As in most of the consoles, the player can return to any level using the Spider-Man's traditional suit or black suit.

The game starts with Peter going to Mary Jane's play, but he is late for fighting some thugs on the streets. Mary Jane is disappointed to Peter by his double life as Spider-Man and asks him if he can be more like Harry. Then appears Harry Osborn, with the New Goblin costume to take revenge on Peter for the death of his father. Spider-Man defeats Harry and gets the symbiote.

Possessed by the symbiote, Peter ruins the career of his fellow reporter Eddie Brock, defeats his former friend Harry, and almost kills Flint Marko. Realizing this, he decides to pull out the black suit, which falls into the hands of Eddie Brock, who becomes Venom. Venom kidnaps Mary Jane and decides to take revenge on Peter. Spider-Man defeats Venom, who promises that they will meet again, and rescues Mary Jane. Peter and Mary Jane finally get reconciled.

Marvel: Ultimate Alliance 2 borrows much of its gameplay from its predecessor. The game allows players to select a team of four given characters from a larger pool of heroes and villains; team members are interchangeable and may be swapped during gameplay. General gameplay mechanics are similar to those of the X-Men Legends series. The game is played from an isometric dungeon crawl perspective, supporting up to four players simultaneously. The Vicarious Visions version on PlayStation 3, PlayStation 4, Xbox 360, Xbox One and PC consoles of the game also feature online play via the PlayStation Network, Xbox Live, and Windows Live/Steam respectively.

The power system also has been improved, allowing two characters to combine powers, yielding a new attack, known as a "fusion". Each playable character in the game has a unique fusion with every other playable character in the game. An example is Captain America using his shield to reflect Storm's lightning bolts. Players have the ability to level up characters and earn new abilities and powers. The Vicarious Visions version on PS3, 360, PS4, Xbox One and PC consoles feature an updated character progression system, with each character having four core powers that evolve as the character levels up. The n-space version on Nintendo DS, Nintendo Wii, PlayStation 2, and PlayStation Portable consoles of the game resemble the character progression system found in the original Marvel: Ultimate Alliance and original X-Men Legends, except the power set numbers are different, whereas Nintendo DS version's power set number is toned down to 4 powers limited like in original X-Men Legends.

The Story
